Municipal Association of Bangladesh-MAB is an
organization which represents all the 329 municipalities of Bangladesh. This
organization is working up to best of its capacity which is being found
inadequate to protect the interest of the municipalities. To make MAB more
effective up to the best of its objective and capacity, it has become most
essential at the current stage of urban context of Bangladesh and related MAB
role to assess the current capacity and build as necessary.
As such, MAB has requested for UNDP assistance for
capacity assessment and development, on that basis UNDP has gladly accepted
MAB’s interest and accordingly UNDP has started the process beginning with the
current capacity assessment of MAB and then for development process. The
capacity assessment method which UNDP is using for MAB, the same method was
used namely in Nepal, Afghanistan, Ukraine and many other countries of the
other continents to assess the organizational capacity and system development
of other local Govt. network similar to MAB.
The result of the capacity assessment will indicate
how MAB can develop its capacity with the prospect of the donor agencies like
UNDP, UN DESA, BMGF etc. and how it can do more effective advocacy to National
Government regarding better service delivery of the municipalities and as per
the aspirations of the municipal dwellers.
MAB has also thanked for UNDP initiatives and
looking forward to the necessary assistance for expected capacity development
of MAB.
